Has anyone noticed T-Mobile, cell phone coverage has improved in Brandywine MDcom, #BrandywineMD?
For twenty years, I would drop calls on Westwood Rd., near Baden Elementary and on Baden Westwood Rd. and Brandywine Rd. near Baden Volunteer Fire Department – VFD and Country’s Seafood Carry-Out.
This is the reason for the improvements in coverage according to T-Mobile:
As of early 2026, T-Mobile has continued to increase 5G coverage throughout Maryland, including suburban areas like Brandywine, while maintaining 4G LTE in rural, low-lying, and fringe areas to ensure network reliability.
T-Mobile 5G and 4GChanges in 2026:5G Expansion: T-Mobile is actively expanding 5G coverage in 2026 by upgrading sites to 2.5 GHz and 600 MHz to improve penetration in areas with varied topography.
4G LTE Usage: T-Mobile is not fully shutting down its 4G LTE network yet; instead, it is refarming (repurposing) much of it for 5G, but maintaining a “sliver” of 4G LTE (5MHz channel) to support rural coverage and legacy IoT devices until approximately 2035.
4G in Rural Maryland: The carrier relies on a combination of low-band 5G and 4G LTE to provide coverage in rural Maryland. As of early 2026, 4G LTE remains active in fringe or rural areas with limited 5G connectivity.

2026 Activation Rules: Starting January 1, 2026, T-Mobile began stricter rules for new device activations, requiring 5G standalone-capable phones for new service, signaling a move away from 4G-only phones, though the LTE network itself remains as a backup for rural coverage.
