Aquasco and other names for that area are not yet listed here. You can visit the state site to look them up.
Explanation about locations: Piscataway District does not appear on this page, though parts of Brandywine today would have been in that district (the mdslavery.net is now here). Brandywine was listed as being in the Nottingham District in 1861 and earlier, but much of what we know as Brandywine today was in the Aquasco District. What we know of as Aquasco today was once Woodville. What we know of as Baden today, which is part of the Brandywine zip code area, was once considered Horse Head. Magruder’s Ferry was on the Patuxent River near Aquasco.
NOTE: In 1860, the Nottingham District contained 969 Free Whites, 129 Free Blacks, and 1,360 Slaves for a total population of 2,458, though there were only 63 Slave Holders (only 6.5% of white population). The Aquasco District had 614 Free Whites, 186 Free Blacks, and 1200 Slaves for a total population of 2,000 of which 95 were Slave Holders (15.5% of the white population). (According to Simon J. Martenet’s 1861 Atlas of Prince George’s Co.)
