My shared comment:
I would like to thank, Nick Newlin for taping the entire District 9 Candidate Forum and GBACA – Greater Baden-Aquasco Citizens Association for presenting and organizing the event along with the Patuxent Riverkeeper, host Fred Tutman. All the candidates did an excellent job being respectful to each other and following the rules for the forum. The candidates were knowledgeable on the issues, in most part but some were more knowledgeable than others because of their work experiences and sitting on various boards of their own or on behalf of the community. One issue that was brought up but none of the candidates touched on as an solution but did address connection parks paths as a possible solution for safety issues concerning walkable and riding trails in the rural tier, is turning unused trains tracks of #PopesCreek into walking and bike trails. I brought up this topic back in 2023.

Although sections of the Pope’s Creek Subdivision is still currently in use but some sections, I believe are not or should be further studied. According to AI search on Google,
Current Operations: The Pope’s Creek Subdivision still hosts active, though infrequent, freight trains (typically 2 to 3 times a week serving local aggregate and rock facilities).
Future Potential: Because the coal-fired power plants at Chalk Point and Morgantown have ceased regular operations, rail-to-trail advocates and local forums frequently target this corridor for future “railbanking”. Under the National Trails System Act, CSX officially supports utilizing inactive lines for recreational trails, meaning a complete operational shutdown by CSX could initiate a formal study to convert the rest of the southern Maryland line into a monumental multi-county rail trail.
I also thought some candidates combined the offense of pandhandling, with vending illegally without a licensed. I think those are separate issues. Pandhandling on a roadway and in traffic, the offenders should be warned and arrested if the offense continues. Vendors should have a licensed also but it is a larger number of vendors that set up at Woodyard Shopping Center each weekend. Before Prince George’s Co. Department of Inspections start handing out fines, I do agree with a few of the candidates handing out pamphlets on how to register as a vendor can be a first option if they are not selling food.
Those of you who knows me personally and on behalf of Brandywine MDcom, and associated my website, Brandywinemd.com, knows I support local small businesses e.g. the Vineyards that make up The Legacy Wine Trial, The Croom Community Farmers Market, to name a few and the food truck vendors that prepare and serve food to the public, like Exclusive Eats Official. The owner and family of Exclusive Eats Official, told me the long process they had to go to obtained a vending license with the Prince George’s County Government, and that they spend hours after closing, cleaning and disinfecting their food truck, not just anyone should be able to sell food to the public without being licensed, on that, I would not be lenient.
