Country’s Seafood Carry-Out
Have some great tasting crabs, this 4th of July Weekend.
I arrived at 12:30 and was about 15th inline but they ran out of large males and all of us who ordered large, had to wait on the next crab truck shipment. They do their own crabbing from the Carolina’s, but will call in for extra crabs from their select group of vendors, when they run out.
Country Seafood Carry-Out, will not just purchase any crabs to serve its customers base. I watched a vehicle pull-up with about 15 bushels of crabs, one of Country’s Seafood Carry-Out employees came out and inspected several bushel of crabs and didn’t purchase any, I assume it didn’t meet their quality. I don’t mind waiting if they treat their customers right in the end.
This is saying from Melvin’s Crabhouse from back in the 70’s. We got the best crabs, They are Smokin Hot! and Jumpin Out The Pot!
The famous slogan “Smokin’ Hot and Jumpin’ Out The Pot” could have been created by Melvin Roberts, the founder and longtime owner of the legendary Melvin’s Crab House or the slogans came from vendors in Baltimore, MD. Who Came Up With It? I am going to say Melvin coined the catchphrase for his community-staple crab house, which was originally located at 58th and Eastern Avenue near the Washington, D.C., and Prince George’s County border, where myself and other neighborhood kids hungout and played on the basketball ball court or played the arcade room. Melvin was a beloved figure in the local community, operated the landmark business for decades until it eventually closed and he passed away. He was loved by the neighborhood children, if you were short on your purchase, he would cover you and gave the children a safe place to play.
Why was Smokin Hot! and Jumpin Out The Pot! slogan created? According to AI, The slogan serves as both a literal description and a clever marketing tool highlighting the freshness and quality of his seafood: The Literal Meaning: Blue crabs are traditionally steamed live. “Jumpin’ out the pot” was a colorful, colloquial way to emphasize to customers that his crabs were incredibly fresh, active, and alive right up until they were cooked. The Quality Standard: “Smokin’ hot” assured customers that their crabs were fresh out of the heavy spice steam. In the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia (DMV) area, serving crabs piping hot and loaded with seasoning is a non-negotiable standard of authenticity. Cultural Context: Melvin’s Crab House wasn’t just a restaurant; it was a cultural hub famous for hosting legendary local outdoor pickup basketball tournaments on its property. The high-energy, rhythmic slogan perfectly matched the vibrant, trash-talking, fast-paced atmosphere of the basketball courts and the lively neighborhood crowd that gathered there daily.
Country’s Seafood Carry-Out, is also keeping a nod to the past alive, The Drive Through Tradition. You drive around the back of the Baden Grocery and Gas Station and please don’t block the driveway to the farm in the back and remain in your vehicle until you are greeted outside right before you get to the side parking and staging area. An employee will take your order and will take cash or your debt card and wrapped your card in a separate peace of paper, with your vehicle description to be returned back to you, before you receive your crabs delivered to your vehicle. After you receive your debt card back, you normally have time to run quickly inside of Baden Grocery to grab something quick or send your passenger inside.
