The project focuses on small streams that lead to Charles Branch. Numerous areas upstream were identified as needing repair. Several headcuts, which are sudden drops in the stream, were also found. These unstable areas are causing erosion and sending sediment downstream to the Chesapeake Bay. The purpose of this project is to stabilize and enhance the stream. Planned work includes:adding rocks and other features to slow water, stabilize the stream and prevent more erosion;adding plants along the stream and in nearby wetland areas to help hold soil in place, improve habitat and support cleaner water; andstabilizing the stream to help improve water quality and support a healthier environment for the community and wildlife. This project must meet the requirements of the Whole Watershed Act.
