NEWLIFE Brandywine Finds a New Home at Gwynn Park High School
When one door abruptly closed, another door opened for NEWLIFE Brandywine.
NEWLIFE Church had planned to launch its new Brandywine campus at the former Xscape Theatres in Brandywine. The church had secured an agreement to hold Sunday worship services inside the theater before Xscape unexpectedly closed, forcing church leaders to quickly search for another location.
Now, NEWLIFE Brandywine has a new home at Gwynn Park High School, 13800 Brandywine Road, Brandywine, Maryland 20613.
The move keeps the new church campus right here in the Brandywine community and provides a large facility for worship and community activities.
NEWLIFE had scheduled its Brandywine launch for Sunday, September 20, 2026. The church’s published information identifies Sean Stewart as Brandywine Campus Pastor and says the new campus is part of NEWLIFE’s growing network of churches throughout Southern Maryland and surrounding communities.

The Shepherd’s House International Worships at Frederick Douglass High School

The Shepherd’s House International Christian Church (TSHICC) has established its Sunday worship home at Frederick Douglass High School, 8000 Croom Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772.
The church was established in Upper Marlboro in 2017 and is led by Senior Pastor R. Kevin Matthews. Its official website currently lists Sunday worship at Frederick Douglass High School at 9:00 a.m., along with children’s and youth ministries and sign-language availability during Sunday services.
The church has also been active in community outreach, including feeding programs, volunteer projects, health and wellness activities, mentoring and other community-service initiatives.
Interestingly, The Shepherd’s House has been considering a permanent church home. Its building-program survey says the congregation began a building initiative in 2019 that was interrupted by COVID-19 and later resumed its search for a future facility. Brandywine and Upper Marlboro are among the locations specifically included in the congregation’s location survey.
