Good morning, I attended the GBACA – Greater Baden-Aquasco Citizens Association presentation with G.S. Proctor & Associates, Inc. and Flatiron Energy, yesterday evening, there three representatives from the two companies and a would guess over 100 concerned citizen, including Dr. Noah Waters, and myself Sean S LaGrand reporting for Brandywine MDcom.
Dr. Noah Waters a resident and the former Mayor of Eagle Harbor adjacent to Chalk Point Power Generating Station, where the Lithium Battery Storage is proposing to be built on 30 acres there, has a petition that residents can sign and he plans to have an online petition soon with Change.Org.
Tamara Davis Brown running for District 9 Council in Prince George’s County was the only politician, that I observed at the presentation.
Flatiron Energy stated they proposed building and placing approx. 750 batteries that will be approx. 20 feet on the 30 acres site and they will be gel cooled in a closed looped system with no emissions or water contamination. The batteries would be able to power approx. 400K homes for approx. 4 hours. They would be used during high demand periods and be charged during low demand periods, the Rep. stated and that the local residents will see a savings on their electric bill, no amount was given.
Citizens expressed concern about safety, including fire risk and lack of trained fire and emergency responders, noise from the batteries and spills contaminating the environment. Flatiron Energy stated they take safety very seriously. I asked about their dedicated Dir. of Safety and Protection, Mr. Groves, who was not present at the meeting but was told that him and other members of the team would be attending future presentations. Flatiron Energy has not applied for any permits with the P.G. Planning Board, they stated they are in the planning stage but planned to have the first of three phases of the plant operational by the end of 2029.
