Cheltenham Service Center looking like they are almost ready to have their gas pumps back operational after being destroyed in a fire after a driver lost control of her vehicle in a single car accident, 6 months ago.
This time the pumps have security bollards installed hopefully these safety measures will make it safer for the motorists and protect the pumps from being totally dislodged by vehicles accidents being so close to Route 301. Pictures are courtesy of SOMD Daily News.
On January 3, 2026, a 20-year-old female driver fell asleep at the wheel while driving a 2026 Toyota Camry. The vehicle hit a traffic light warning sign, struck a pole, and collided directly with the gas pumps at the station located at 11107 Crain Highway. The impact immediately ignited a massive fire, completely destroying all of the station’s fuel pumps. The driver survived the crash with non-life-threatening injuries.
Current Status and Safety Upgrades Pumps Restored: While the auto repair shop remained open following the accident, gas sales were forced to shut down for months during the reconstruction. The fuel system is now nearly back to full capacity.
Bollards Installed: Prior to the crash, the station did not have safety barriers protecting the fuel bays. As part of the modern rebuild, heavy-duty security bollards have been installed around the perimeter of the new pumps to protect the infrastructure and customers from future vehicle impacts.

Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department On 01/03 around 03:14hrs, Rescue Squad 20 was dispatched to Hazmat Box Alarm 45-05 for a vehicle into gas pumps at Crain Hwy & Frank Tippett Rd. The driver suffered minor injures, and there was no extension to the storefront. Below are pictures of before & after.
Cheltenham Service Center gas pumps were destroyed after Cheltenham Service Centerd crashed and a fire resulted. Female driver reported to be in stable condition. Shared from a Nextdoor member. Stopped by and asked what happened. A 20 year old female, driving a 2026 Camry, fell asleep, hit the sign letting you know that it’s a traffic light ahead, hit a pole and then the gas pumps. Of course the gas pumps ignited a fire and destroyed all gas pumps. She’s in the hospital without life threatening injuries. The repair shop is still open for business but it will be a while before the pumps are replaced and operable. Before picture #2I noticed in pic. #2, no security bollards were installed around the pumps. The owner should look into installing bollards, when the pumps are replaced.
I had my car serviced by the lead mechanic in the past, he is very meticulous, which is what you want in a mechanic. I enjoyed conversating with the owner, does anyone have the owner and lead mechanic names, I don’t remember?
