Swiming Pool Safety and Pool Covers Big thanks to Baden Fire Department, Baden Volunteer Fire Department – VFD, Lani Gibbons Ingram, Phil Robey and Fair Hill Emergency Response Team, for saving a horse that fell through a pool that had been closed for the winter and had a pool cover installed. A standard pool safety cover must support a minimum of 485 pounds to meet ASTM standards which is the equivalent of two adults and a child. Basic/tarp covers are not save for people or animals to stand on. Please take precautions to keep humans and animals away from an opened pools when not monitored or closed pools.

Horse in a pool in Brandywine MD. What would you do?Fair Hill Emergency Response Team received the call 915am to assist but we are 2.5 hours away. Fire Company was on scene but did not have training or equipment to safely extricate the horse. Suggestions were relayed to them on proper methods to use. Horse was rescued with large laceration on leg waiting on vet response.Do you know trained resources in your area for an equine emergency? Does hour local fire companies has the necessary equipment and training?Would horse owners and first responders in your area be interested in learning proper emergency rescue techniques?Fair Hill Emergency Response Team will be offering clinics in 2026 to learn what to do. So a lot of people have reached out to me to see if the horse that fell in pool has been rescued. Happy to say yes it did have a pretty deep laceration, but I feel like this horse is gonna make a complete recovery. gotta say that Baden fire department did an awesome job and Phil Robey was the savior of the day as he came with his big old tractor and assisted with pulling horse out safely. also a big thanks to Fairhill emergency response team who unfortunately are two hours away, but were able to consult with me over phone. I am gonna try to arrange for them to come do a clinic at Baden firehouse. Please reach out to me anyone that is interested as I need quite a few to respond in order to convince the fire department to hold this.
