Baden Elementary trash dumpsters were overflowing with residents trash the day after Christmas.
Residential Trash
The Sustainable Waste Management Division (SWMD) provides trash collection services to approximately 180,000 homes in the PG County.Residents in neighborhoods not covered by the county service (often in more rural areas) are responsible for hiring private waste haulers. Neighborhoods mainly in some sections of Prince George’s Co. Aquasco, MD. Brandywine, Maryland, Upper Marlboro, MD. and Fort Washington, MD. don’t have trash or recycling services.
Prince George’s County only offers 2 Convenience Centers locations to drop off household trash. The citizens of Baden, Brandywine and Aquasco, MD. needs an additional location in this end of the county to drop off household trash. Citizens are not supposed to drop off trash at local Prince George’s County Public Schools and Lolita E. Walker, PGCPS Board of Education, District 9 School District, or any other site except at the Convenience Centers or pay for private waste hauler.
Some do not and dump their trash in unauthorized locations. This location is Baden Elementary, one day after Christmas.
Does anyone have any update on the future plans for Baden Elementary and Baden Library in 2028 once students are mergered to the new location at Brandywine K – 8? Statement from Dr. Charoscar Coleman of PGCPS.
Dr. Charoscar Coleman, the district’s chief operating officer, told the board the new third-through-eighth building will be sited at Gwynn Park Middle School and that Gwynn Park will be demolished to accommodate the new facility. She said Baden Elementary’s future use remains under determination but that the district expects to surplus the Baden building back to county government while the adjoining public library would likely remain in service.
