For us that lives in rural areas and have a problem with field mice getting into your barns, sheds or even your homes, it is more convenient to use rat poison than old fashioned spring loaded mice traps or clue traps. Please don’t use poison. The mice might die inside of your homes, where you can’t easily access them or make it back outside in the wild. Once the mice are outside, they might become prey to birds of prey, foxes, cats or other animals that feed on mice and kill them as well. Remember to seal up gaps in your homes, where utility services enter your homes, such as gas lines, electrical and cable. Check for cracks and missing mortar between bricks and seal any gaps you see. This will seal out the mice and the snakes that hunt them. Keep out the stink bugs also, which are also looking for free rent and board for the winter. You also save on your energy bill.
Stink bugs are invading, cover your bathroom and kitchen exhaust vents with a screen and fireplace vent if possibe.

Today… I died. Not out there in the cold forest, under the moon. But in the warm light of a stranger’s kitchen. They used to call me a silent hunter. I didn’t hunt for sport.Just a mouse. Just a meal. Just another night beneath the stars. But the mouse I caught wasn’t just a mouse. It had eaten poison. And when I ate it… the poison found me too. A woman found me later, lying by the road — soaked, trembling, half-alive. She didn’t look away.
She picked me up, wrapped me in a towel, and held me close to her chest. For the first time in days, I felt warmth. Safety.Peace. She whispered, “It’s okay, little one.”And for a moment, it was.I wanted to thank her… to tell her that her kindness mattered. But my body was already giving up. That’s how I died — not alone, not unseen. But in the arms of someone who cared. Please… stop using poison. It doesn’t just kill rats or mice.It kills us — the owls, hawks, foxes, and eagles who keep your world in balance. Use live traps. Seal up food. Find safer ways.Because when you kill the hunters… the whole forest grieves.?? Spread this message if you believe compassion should extend beyond what we can see.
